When I was going through my old photos of 2012, I found these iOS 5 on iPad screen grabs. It's amazing how much iOS has changed since the iOS 7 redesign. Looking back, I feel I miss these icons a little bit. They actually didn't look that bad. I hope iOS 10 and the ones after that will bring back a little bit more contour and depth. While I'm not a fan of skeuomorphism, the flatness and blank spaces of iOS 7/8/9 are in my opinion another extreme that has to be improved. I want more functionality, I want to trump pure visual simplicity. I hope iOS 10 will fix some of that. Meanwhile, enjoy some iOS 5 nostalgia: I really loved Apple's Pages and FaceTime icons here. I was so excited to finally get my new iPad Pro 9.7" yesterday. I arrived home late from work, and the package was waiting for me already. I ordered it online two days ago and it was here. Those who read this blog know, that it was a month long anticipation . But since it was late, I decided to unbox it the next day. So today in the morning was the time to do it. This is my third iPad, and arguably the best ever made, so I was pretty excited. I set everything up for a little unboxing video in my room, and started to unwrap the box. I've unboxed like 7 iOs devices in the past, and it was always a pleasure to see how they slowly slip out of the box, but this one just would not go out. It was odd. I had to really tug on it to get the top part of the box off. Something didn't feel right. When I finally unwrapped the iPad and checked the front and the back, I spotted scratches! Image source . Enlarge image . This iPad stand caught my eyes. It's called Elago P2 Stand , I spotted it at Syntrend, one of Taipei's latest and very exciting shopping malls. Since I'm in the process of buying a new iPad Pro 9.7" , I'm also eying a stand, and this one is very elegant and looks like it's of great quality. It turns the iPad into a mini iMac, and with the combo of the Magic Keyboard 2 , it seems like a match made in heaven. The only issue is the price: It costs 1620 NTD, which equals to 50 USD, however if you check Amazon , you can snag one for 25-30 USD. I guess I have to check some other places in Taipei, Syntrend is usually more expensive than the rest. Another good thing about this stand are the various colors that you can choose to match the color of your iPad. Since I'm opting for the silver iPad Pro, this image shows more or less how the combo will look like - pretty nice, if you ask me.

I've spotted this iPad Pro photographer in Taipei a few days ago, and it's the first time that I've seen someone taking photos with the larger 12.9" device. He was photographing a mockup Batmobile, that was on display at a public square close to Taipei 101. I have totally nothing against iPad photography, but the 8 mpxl camera on this device is arguably not as good as the camera of the recently launched 9.7" version, that comes with a 12 mpxl camera. Unfortunately, that one is not yet available in Taiwan. So I'm planning to buy a new iPad, but I'm not sure whether I should choose the iPad Pro 12.9" or 9.7", or perhaps just get the iPad Air 2 , the price for the 64GB version is really attractive right now. However as a tech geek, I'm just magically drawn to the iPad Pro because of all the advanced features, and the very capable processor. But all that comes at a price at around 1000 USD, and that's definitely not cheap for a tablet, and makes me question whether I really need to pay that much for additional storage. Because right now I would probably choose the iPad Pro 9.7" with 256 GB, but before I press that preorder button, I want to analyse and see whether I'm really sure that this is the right way to go for me.
