Fuji X-T3: Shockingly bad high ISO performance

Gambar
Fuji snobs often claim that the Fuji X-Trans crop-sensor cameras are as good, if not better than the full frame competition from Nikon, Canon and Sony. But when you put the performance under the magnifying glass, there is a difference. Fuji APS-C cameras just cannot match the performance of full-frame cameras, that's not just fact, it's also common sense. Don't let the Fuji marketing fool you ( learn about the ugly side of Fuji marketing ), Fuji is just like everyone else not able to break the laws of physics. I hope this post helps to get some more sanity back into the conversation of crop vs. full frame, because there are people on YouTube talking a lot of nonsense ( Fuji fanboys with no photography skill ). Fuji X-T3 is a big fail in ISO performance DP Review published their X-T3 studio scene comparison in RAW , and if we compare the ISO performance to the ones of the Fuji X-T2, Sony A7III and the Nikon D750, we realize that the Fuji X-T3 is the worst of all four ! The ugly side of Fujifilm's marketing

Gambar
Fujifilm has been portraying itself as the "different camera maker" often praised for their retro camera design, regular firmware updates, and after service. Also in marketing Fujifilm did not follow the path of Sony and aggressively market their cameras through various online influencers. This seems to be changing recently. Canadian photographer Nathan Elson reports about his bad experience with Fujifilm Canada, and why he exited the Fuji X-Photographer ambassador program. Here are the key points from his video: - He only shoots with the X-Pro2. He did not like the X-T2 in terms of how it feels in his hands. - GFX is a beautiful camera, but not as well rounded as the Nikon D800 (you can shoot portraits, action etc). - Fuji wanted him to sell-off his Nikon gear and shoot Fuji 100%, something he was not ready to do - He likes to have a second body for backup, and having 2 GFX cameras is too costly he implied. - Fuji is trying to place an X-Photographer in every Canadian prov...

Analysis of Nikon, Canon, Sony and Fuji, and the interchangeable lens camera market

Gambar
In September 2018 Nikon and Canon entered the mirrorless full frame market. Nikon with their Z7 and Z6, two identical bodies with slightly different specs, and Canon with their single EOS R camera. Both Nikon and Canon designed completely new lens mount systems for these cameras, promising faster and sharper glass in the future. While these cameras are no slouches, they are not flagships, but they certainly come with a premium price tag. Sony, the market leader in full frame mirrorless cameras is for the first time facing real competition, and is most likely preparing to counter. Rumor has it that  Panasonic is entering the full frame mirrorless market as well, so things will definitely get interesting. Then there’s also Fuji with their crop-sensor cameras popular as second bodies among enthusiasts who typically shoot with real cameras from Nikon and Canon. What do these launches tell about the companies Generally, the entrance of Nikon and Canon into a serious mirrorless game tell...

Fuji X-H1 is a terrible vlogging camera

Gambar
I just watched Evan Ranft 's latest video, which is one of his regular vlogs. The vlog itself was pretty normal, but what was really disturbing to see was his vlogging camera was often hunting for focus and back-focusing. He's using a Fuji X-H1 for his vlogs, and a Nikon D810 for his photography. Below is a short video highlighting the issues I mentioned. The Fuji back-focused 7 times within a little more than a minute! I knew Fuji's system has lots of flaws, but I did not expect the focusing to be so terrible, since Fuji is marketing this camera specifically for video. A big fail on Fuji's part, I have to say. Vlogger Evan Ranft experiencing terrible autofocus issues with his #Fuji X-H1 camera. This camera is not suitable for video, it’s at best an overpriced X-T2 with better ergonomics for #hipster JPEG shooters. pic.twitter.com/mFVi7MbCJw — TAIPEI GEEK (@TaipeiGeek) August 28, 2018 This is a horrible issue, and Fuji better work hard to fix this. What amazes me is...

Two Youtube camera reviews: One is real, the other one sounds like a Sony advertisement

Gambar
It's really interesting how vast and how complex the Youtube photography gear review community is . Every day I discover something new, and today I came across a new channel named Fenchel & Janisch , who is run by a German videographer. The quality of that channel is amazing, actually stunning. So are some of the videos they are producing with the gear they review (currently the Fuji X-H1). On the other hand there is Tony Northrup , a Youtuber who was brought to Las Vegas by Sony to "review" the new Sony A7III, an overpriced consumer camera, which he has touted as the camera that will "revolutionize wedding and portrait photography". He also claimed in a separate video, that Sony has double the image quality of the as well newly launched Fuji X-H1. Watch both "review" videos, and then judge for yourself who is a more credible source of buying decision. The difference is obvious: One is real, the other one sounds like an advertisement. Tony Northrup...

Fujifilm X100T camera longterm review

Gambar
The Fuji X100T was quite a revered and hyped up camera when I bought one in August 2016, but it was close to the end of life, as its successor the X100F was already rumored (it was launched in January 2017). I paid 29,000 NTD for it, which was at that time around 920 USD (the MSRP of a new X100T at launch was 1300 USD). The reason for that is that I got a grey market version. At that time I did not know that a new model is coming out, and I also did not care much - I wanted this camera after reading so many great online reviews, because I looked for a smaller compacter camera for travel, so that I did not need to lug around my heavier Nikon kit (D7100 and lenses). The initial excitement quickly faded away and I ended up selling the camera. Let me tell you why further below, but first let’s look at the key specs. Fujifilm X100T key specs - 16 Mpxl X-Trans CMOS II sensor (with on-sensor phase detection) - Max size of an image: 4896 x 3264 pxl - 23 mm equivalent f/2.0 lens, fixed - Mechan...
